CHURCH OF ENGLAND.

A NEW RUBRIC.

LONDON, June 17

Tbe "Daily Express says the Church of England is facing one of the gravest crises in its history. This may lead to the secession of 700.000 members of the Anglo-Catholic party and their eventual reunion with the Church of Rome.

Thirty-six archbishops and bishops tire in daily conference at Lambeth Palace. They are expected to approve of a rubric which has already been passed by the House of Clergy. This would legalise the perpetual reservation of the Sacrament.

The Church Assembly is likely to confirm the decision of the bishops' Then a fight will begin, as the new rubric will have to go before Parliament for authority, which the Anglo-Catholics refuse to recognise. The rejection or the bill would strengthen the vigorous demand of the Anglo-Catholics for disestablishment.

On the other hand, if the bill passes, the bishop will ban the service of devotion to the Sacrament, which is now carried on in many Anglo-Catholic churches, and as the Anglo-Catholics are expected to refuse to respect the ban prosecutions will be commenced.— (A. and N.Z.)
