LAWS OF THE GAME.
SUGGESTED AMENDMENTS. A.R.F.U.'S PROPOSALS. At the request of the New Zealand Rugby Union, the A.R.F.U. has suggested several amendments to the laws of the Rugby game for inclusion in the agenda paper of the Imperial Conference. On proposal is that the advantage rule should apply throughout the laws of the game. The kick-off and drop-out are features of the game not covered by the present rule. Another suggested amendment is that a field goal should count three points instead of four, and that a penalty goal should count two points instead of three. A difference of opinion arose with Tβference to the proposal that no kicks at goal from marks should be allowed. On the easting l vote of the chairman (Mr. H. Frost), the proposal was carried. Another suggestion approved was:— That free-kicks by way of penalties shall be awarded (a) if any player advances beyond an imaginary line drawn through the back of his scrummage parallel with the goal line while the ball is in such scrummage; (b) if any player in a scrummage breaks away while the ball is in the scrummage. The committee also approved a suggestion that, in the event of a forcedown, the kiek-oiit should be from the defending side's goal-line, instead of from within the twenty-five line, as at present.
