Prior to the commencement of a defended divorce action in the Supreme Court this morning, two women took their places in the back of the Court room, each holding a baby in her arms. One child protested vigorously, causing the clerk of the court to hurry mother and child outside. A few minutes later the other child bewailed its fate. Mr. Justice Stringer requested the Court orderly to "' take that baby into the fresh-air. It will be better for the baby and more convenient for us." The cause of the trouble was quickly removed. It was stated at the annual meeting of the Auckland Provincial Patriotic and War Relief Association this afternoon that a number of returned soldiers who were discharged fit, have subsequently developed a war disability, and it appears likely that the number of this class of case will increase. The committee carefully investigates the position, and if it is at all apparent that the disability can be traced to war service, the applicants are suitably assisted from the funds, notwithstanding that they may have no war pensions. In all cases where the committee is of opinion that the applicants are eligible for war pensions steps are taken to have their cases represented to the War Pensions Board, with a view to obtaining war pensions. In some eases war disability recurs after a lengthy period of-civilian employment, and the assistance rendered by the board while the applicants are waiting for their applications for war pensions to be determined is of very great benefit to the men and their dependents.
