THE UNEMPLOYED.
ORAKEI ROAD WORKS
Work on the Orakei Garden Suburb Road has been continued unceasingly since the 26th of May, and no time has been lost by those engaged on account of the weather Yesterday the number of hands was increased from 30 to 45, preference in every case being given to married men with dependents, or single men with dependents. A condition of the employment is that those engaged only receive half their pay, the other half paid to or forwarded to the wife or dependent. This fact was not understood by the men engaged at the outset, and as. a result several have fallen out. but their places are eagerly rushed The road will wind up the bill from the bridge and round in a semicircle towards the property of Mr. T. Coates. No date has yet been fixed as to when the first block of sections will be placed on the market. A number of visitors have inspected the property during the past week.
