YUGOSLAV STEAMER.

FIRST TO VISIT AUCKLAND

VIDOVDAN FROM CHILE

The steamer Vidovdan, which arrived at Auckland from Chile this morning, is the first vessel owned and manned by Yugoslavs to visit this port. Flying from the steamer's stern when the vessel berthed alongside the Queen _ wharf was the national flag of th« Ytigr*slavs, a tricolour of W__, wnite and red, the stripes being horizontal, and Lbs latiering beneath her name showed ber to be registered at Dubrovnik. For her present voyage the Vidovdan loaded oats and nitrates at Taltal, Iquique and Talcahuano, and replenished her coal bunkers at Coronel. On her voyage to this port she experience- very stormy weather, with the result that her decks were continually -flooded, although no damage was done. After unloading part cargo at Auckland, the steamer is to proceed to Australia. Although the Vidovdan is the first Yugoslav steamer to visit Auckland or any other port in New Zealand, she is only one of about two hundred vessels under that people's flag. The particular firm owning her also controls about thirteen other vessels. Built in, British yards about twenty years ago, the Vidovdan was for some years owned in Germany. After the war she was taken by the British Government, and last year was sold to the Yugoslavs. She is a vessel of 3556 tons net, and is engaged in tramping.
