The drizzle lifted at three o'clock and Woodfull and Hendry resumed the Australians' first innings half an hour later on a good wicket. The attendance was 10,000. Peach and Fenley were the bowlers. Alter a succession of singles, mostly carpet drives off Fenley, Woodfull obtained his century, which had taken 195 minutes. When 114 he found the pavilion rails—the first boundary hit of his innings. Three balls later in trying to turn one from Lockton, Woodfull was taken easily at short-leg. He had batted 220 minutes. Gregory • brought some life into tha game, cutting Lockton, and sending Fender to the leg for moundaries on: successive balls. Notwithstanding the slow outfield, Hendry all through was graceful but uncertain, and after 12~> minutes' occupancy of the crease, was caught at short-leg. Collins then declared the innings closed.
