ELECTRICITY IN DEVONPORT.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —I have been expecting some one to write protesting about the most unsatisfactory electric light service of Devonport. Night after night the lights are down to only a glow,, making it utterly impossible to read or write, and making everybody feel properly miserable. The street lights are usually out altogether for hours at a time, women are seared to go out, and conditions are right for further assaults such as occurred last Thursday in Melrose. During the day also the current is cut off all day, although no notice is given of same, as is done by other Power Boards. I cannot think how business people using power manage, but the housewife has to keep the Monday's wash until the end of the week to be able to iron. If the trouble is due to mechanical faults, why is it not rectified by now. as several weeks have elapsed since the trouble started, if the trouble is due to overload, why are the council making .fresh connections daily? Perhaps the council wish to emphasise the big difference that will take place when the Waitemata Power Board take over the concern, but in the meantime it is extremely unsatisfactory. I am, etc., * CONSUMER.
