WINTER COURSES.

OPENING CONCERTS

There was a crowded attendance at the Leys Institute last evening when the winter course of concerts and lectures was opened. An excellent programme was provided by the Auckland Savage Clubhand every item was encored. Bro. H. E. Gillespie 'was in charge. ' The Tribal greeting was given. by Bro. Massey, and songs and items were contributed by Bros. Pawsey, Leather, Rex. Yates, Bellan, Gillespie, Barnes and Garland. Bros. O'Malley and Wxightson scored a decided . success in the duet "Watchman What of the Night," whilst the several choruses were thoroughly enjoyed, especially the opening number, "Soldiers' Chorus." In returning thanks to the Savage Club, Mr. Cecil Leys spoke of their unvariable kindness in always coming, forwards to the assistance of the Institute, and said that no better programme had ever been presented. Mr.Leys referred to the excllnt programm ofthe winter course now entered upon, and mentioned several of the subjects on the syllabus. The next gathering would be on May 25, when Mr. J. 8.-Johnston would deliver an illustrated address on the cruise of the launch Kuamano round New .Zealand. Bro. Gillespie responded on behalf of the Savage Club. Mr~and Mrs. C. Towsey were responsible . for an excellent entertainment at the Parnell Library. The performers were Mesdames Cyril Towsey, E. Chisholm, A. E. Schade, L. Thorburn, W. J. Skinner, L. Hale, P. Thode, Misses Margaret Stoddart, K. Christie, D. Binns, B. Tupp, A. Cooke, A. Bevege and A. Dixon, and Messrs. J. F. Montague, A. McElwain, .E. Bell and E. Maxwell. . Mr. Cyril Towsey was the accompanist At the next gathering, the Rev. W. G. Monckton will lecture on "The Problems of the Day;" r
