A SHIPOWNERS' MONEY.
NO DEATH DUTIES. THE LAWS OF JERSEY. _. LONDON, April 22. The late .' Sir ._ Houston, the British shipowner- ..who' 'died recently leaving a' fortune valued at -£.7,000,01)0, made a will in Jersey, where Ire claimed domicile. This is likely to prove a heavy blow to the British Exchequer, as no death duties are levied in Jersey. The newspaper "Sketch" says that the highest legal authority states that the Jersey'domicilg completely protects the Houston estate from death.duties, which it is estimated would have amounted to £3,000,000, . The "Daily Mail" states that'the Treasury will probably briiig a test case in order to secure a ruling regarding Channel Islands domicile. — (A. and N.Z. — "Sun.") '* . '.*■■. .
