A MORAL SCANDAL.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—Kindly allow mc to endorse the remarks of "Studebaker" .re the state of the Mamaku Road. Unfortunately, I was motoring along that road on Easter Monday, and fell into the same trap as "Studebaker," and was fleeced likewise to the tune of 20/, which, I was informed, was to be paid to the contractor, but I do not think for one moment that the contractor would stoop to such low tactics. The burly -Irishman who made the demand also wanted a similar amount for his own services. I was informed, with what amount of truth I don't know, that a few days previously another motorist was fleeced of £5. What is the engineer in charge doing to allow this state of affairs to exist, when a couple of men with the material close at hand could have nfade it'quite'eafe to cross over in a few hours? I am anxiously awaiting the explanation,of the parties responsible for the letting of these contracts. The matter cannot be allowed to stand where it is.—l am, etc., Taumarunui. "MOTORIST.
