THREW A FULL BOTTLE.

AT AN ENGINEDBIVEB. MORE SENSATION IN THE MANAWATU. (By Telc-ffraph.— Press Association.) PALMERSTON NORTH, this day. When the train to Palmerston North from Napier was nearing Terrace End station last night one of two men standing by the side of the track threw a bottle containing liquid at the driver of the train. The missile missed his head only by inches. The bottle struck an upper ledge of the engine cab at the back of the head of the driver, Mr. Lewins, smashing to pieces on the ironwork. The two men were not under the influence of liquor, as they were seen running swiftly away. The smell of the liquid from the bottle was somewhat similar to that of alcohol, yet not like any familiar alcoholic beverage in appearance. The train at the time of the above incident was travelling at about 30 miles an hour.
