TREATMENT OF THE INDIAN.
(To the Editor,) , _ Sir.—Natives of India, now residing , in New Zealand, are being rather harshly treated in some places; for instance at . Pukekohe, where they are not allowed ,jto go to the pictures; and in some other I particulars. Hindus are certainly not i J receiving a fair deal. I must point out that restrictions have been placed upon I Hindus, who are not now allowed to • come to New Zealand as settlers. "Tourists and educational students and specials—may come." The Hindus who are now here may stay here or return ! to India, therefore to my mind the j Hindu question is well in hand, and the I '. Government holds ample power to deal J with the matter. I sincerely hope and : trust that equity and fa ; • play will Jbe :used. I respectfully urge that we are not aliens within the British CommonI wealth of Nations. Imperial British India has a great heart of patriotism— evidenced in the stand taken by her nationals in the Great War. The AntiAsiatic Society should pause and think before they begin to condemn our people. I; and indeed many ( of our people believe that India is the rampart of Imperial defence; our growing population in India is an increasing promise for added strength in this direction. It is basemindedness not to allow our Indian .Nationals the same measure of justice as would be given to former enemies, to foreigners or to disloyalists. Sir I myself and others with mc will stand loyal, staunch and true in spite of the Anti-Asiatic Society and its bickeringe. Light of Asia shine on us.—l am, etc., I I ARYAN. I
