CHRYSATHEMUM EXHIBITS.

MOVE FOR INDEPENDENT DISPLAY. GEOWEBS FOEM A NEW CLUB. At last Auckland growers of chrysanthemums have stepped into line with the growers of southern centres and formed themselves into a Chrysanthemum Club, which is an active little body of 27 members. The club dates its beginning from Tuesday last.' On that evening growers from differents parts of the city met together at the residence of Mr. G. W. Plummer, in Gillies Avenue, and drew up rules and ' discussed the matter of preparing a." schedule for competition purposes and arranging for a large exhibit of chrysanthemums next season. The meeting was most enthusiastic and a spirit of self-help was much in evidence. The older growers present expressed their willingness to give plants and also to instruct how to grow them, with a view to assisting any younger growers who contemplated exhibiting aft the forthcoming show. It was recognised that the younger growers had been much handicapped in the past and that the present movement would contribute towards an important development in the culture of chrysanthemums. It was also believed that the newly formed club would be a useful member in the advancement of horticultural interests in Auckland city and suburbs. A strong membership was formed and ' Mr. A. Galloway was elected honorary secretary for the first year. With a view to obtaining new members those present were asked to make the club as widely-known as possible. Exhibitions of chrysanthemums have in the past been made at the autumn show of the Auckland Horticultural Society, but the time has arrived when the interests of growers' of this • flower are not sufficiently promoted by a show of many varieties of flowers. The show is held so early that growers have been unable to get their blooms ready in time and the consequence has been that amateurs have been discouraged and there has been a noticeable lack of interest. The fact that the chrysanthemum is known as the " Queen of Autumn" among growers is something that is not generally known to the public, and it is desired to make the annual display of chrysanthemum blooms something that will be impressive and worthy of its importance.".
