LOYAL ORANGE INSTITUTION.
SESSIONS OP GRAND LODGES. THE _TRST DAY. Before a full delegation of primary lodge representatives and a large number of past grand masters, the eighteenth annual Grand Lodge sessions were opened this morning in the Orange Hall, Newton Road. In the absence" of the Grand Master, Wor. Bro. G. Taylor, Rev. G. K. Aitken presided. District, Grand Master F. R. Arnold, as titular head of Orangeism in Auckland, welcomed the Grand Lodge, expressing the hope that Auckland would treat its guests in accordance with its reputation. Wor. Bro. Arnold intimated that he had been instructed by the Mayor of Auckland to convey greetings to the lodge. Before business of a routine character was proceeded with a motion of sympathy with the Grand Master was carried. During the morning the lodge received a visit from Wor. Bro. Stocker. president of the Grand Orange Council of Australasia—the governing body of Orangeism in Australasia. Wor. Bro. Stocker was accompanied by Wor. Bro. Middleton, of Christchurch. The record of the -working of the grand executive during the past year, as read by the grand secretary, indicated that there had been considerable activity among the lodges during the year. It was apparent that the appointment of county grand masters to have in their charge the work of the order in the several districts and to report thereon to Grand Lodge had been amply justified. Information was given relating to the launching of the essay competition among Sunday school scholars on Protestant subjects. The session is proceeding.
