WAIHI RESIDENCE BURNED. INVALID SAFELY REMOVED. '(By Telecrapb.—Own Correspondent.! WAIHI, this day. A fire occurred yesterday forenoon in Cambridge- Road, Bulltown. a residence occupied by Mr. D. lleClure and family and owned by Mrs. Goldsworthv being totally destroyed. The brigade was promptly on the scene, but the water pressure was low in the vicinity, which is situated on the outskirts of Waihi. The fire originated in a defective iron chimney. Mrs. McClure, who was confined to her bed at the time was removed to safety. A portion of the contents was saved. The building is said to have been insured for £90. but there was no cover on the contents.

COMPLETELY DESTROYED.

A SHOP AT WHAKATANE. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.! WHAKATANE, this day. A shop constructed of wood and iron; owned by the Whakatane Development Company, and occupied .by Mr. Eric Clark, plumber, was completely burned between 12 and I o'clock this morning, nothing being saved. The fire had a good hold when first observed by Mr. Cannings, baker, about 12.30 p.m. The local brigade turned out quickly, but had no hope of saving the building. The building was insured in the State Fire office for £150. The stock was covered in the South British, but for what amount is not yet ascertainable. The origin of the fire is a mystery.
