BUTTER MARKET OUTLOOK.

In conversation with a gentleman interested in the dairy industry a representative of the "Auckland Star" was informed that the cold experienced in February has cheeked the growth of pasture in the Auckland district, and unless a warm spell sets iv soon, feed may be short next winter. Referring to the London market for butter he said:—"At present, prices iv London do not reflect the anticipated position for the next two months. Recent cables indicate a decline from 174/ per cwt, to 172/, whereas sales have been made during the past week here at 1/53 f.0.b., which is equivalent to ISO/ per cwt landed in London, an advance of 14/ per cwt upon the recent cabled quotation. The explanation is that Auckland stocks of butter, now collected in London are affecting spot prices on that market." The decline in tbe production of butter this season en both Australia and New Zealand must firm values in London later on in the season. One pleasing feature of the position is that so far butter and cheese values are substantially in advance of prices ruling last year, and in the final clean up should compensate farmers to a considerable extent for the lesser production.
