CANADIAN CATTLE TRADE.

TT. W. Johns, of San Francisco, wrote under date of Februaiy 2ml regarding tho embargo on the entry of Canadian cattle into Britain. The writer states it is admitted now that the embargo was iirst put on ns the result of a mistaken diagnosis. It is claimed that thu opposition of the Irish cattlemen and the. dealers in other countries was sufficient to liar the entry of all Canadian cattle save those for immediate slaughter at the docks. The "Montreal Daily Star." writing on the subicct. states: ''Canada feels that she is unfairly discriminated against in this matter. Other Dominions, notably Ireland, are free of these restrictions, although there is no country in the world so free- from disease as Canada. The cattle trade lias grown to be a most important one, amounting now to nearly fifty per cent of Canada's exports. "It would be much larger, with advantage to the cattle men of the Dominion, if the nledges made during the war were fulfilled in the spirit in which tbey were maele. The restrictions which are 'handicapping trade should be removed at once. "While the Americans practically bar thoir market for our cattle, we should expect fair play and common sense from the British Government." CHICAGO WHEAT MARKET.
