EASY WIN FOR PILLIEWINKEE. XIGHT PATROL BEATS HEROIC. MELBOURNE, March 4. The Victoria Racing Club's meeting was advanced a further stage at Flemington to-day in muggy weather. The State Governor, the Earl of Stradbroke, was present and there was a large attendance. Batouch, which won the Pines Hurdle Race on the opening day, scored an easy victory in the Autumn. Hurdle Race. E. Moon steered him in both races. The Cyklon filly Cyden, owned by Mrs. M. Falkiner, won the Ascot Vale Stakes in attractive style. The winner was trained by James Scobie, whose twelfth success in the race was registered. Cyden is engaged in the Y.R.C. Derby. The meeting between The Xight Patrol and Heroic in the C. M. Lieyd Stakes created a lot of interest. The Zsight Patrol defeated his Australianbred rival in brilliant style. The victory of the Earl of Stradbroke's horse gave rise to a scene of great enthusiasm. In the decision of the Autumn Handicap Highlander got through on the rails and won well, putting up a course record for the distance. Piiliewinkie was produced to contest the Governor's Plate, and the New Zea-land-bred gelding won his race in easy style from the English-bred horse, Pantheon. G. Young had the mount on Piiliewinkie, and the New -Zealand jockey had the distinction of steering the respective winners of the two weight-for-age Taces to-day. With victories in the Essendon Stakes, Australian Cup and Governor's Plate down to the credit of Piiliewinkie, -he stands out as the leading performer at the meeting.
