EDEN BY-ELECTION.

PARTIES STILL ACTIVE

NO ANNOUNCEMENT YET

The Eden by-election campaign has not yet reached the stage of an announcement being made of the names of the candidates. Since early this week the Reform party's organisation has been busy in all parts of the electorate and it is expected that the series of meetings will close this evening, in preparation for a combined gathering of delegates on Monday. Reform and Labour candidates will be chosen next week. The Labour party will receive nominations until next Wednesday at the office of the Labour Representation Committee: and the selection will be made by ballot. Mr. H. G. R. Mason, who has twice contested the Eden seat, is expected .to be in the field again; and it would cause no siirprise in -wellinformed circles if he were the only nominee. If Sir James Gunson is nominated in the Reform interests he is regarded as havine the most likely chance of contesting the seat vacated by Sir James Parr. Supporters of Miss Ellon Melville, should her selection be made as the Reform r/indidates. have been holding meetings this week: and a resolution was passed last night by members of the Orey Lvnn branch of the Reform Lencrue promising active support.
