WAITEMATA AND MANUKAU ELECTED. Nominations for the various Lieensincr Committees closed at noon to-day For the Auckland and Parnell committees more thiin the required number were nominated so that an election Will be necessary and this will take place on March 9. The Waitetnata and Manukau committees have been elected, only the required number being -nominated. Auckland committee nominations are:—Messrs. W. L. Casey. J. Grace, V. Johnson. G. H. Lethaby, E. Leydon, P. McEhrain. J.M.MvVeagh, Alfred Thompson and J. Trevithick. For the Parnell committee the following nominations were received: —Messrs. E. J. H. O'Keefe, C. E. Palmer, M. M. MeCalluni. J. D. Jones, L. A. Clements, E. J. Phelan and Thos. Eloodworth. The following were elected to the Manukau committee: —Messrs W. H. Gavin, H. E. Mackenzie, J. Rowe, E. V. Sutherland and W. J. Wallace. The Waitemata committee is:— Messrs. C H. Court. E. E. Grimwade, F. E. Mason, J. P. McPhail and J. Pascoe. Five candidates are required to be plected for each licensing district, nolicense districts, of course, being excepted. There are 57 licensing districts in New Zealand. The franchise for licensing committee elections is very wide, being actually the same as that at the General Election, hut it has become notorious that few of those who arc entitled to vote avail themselves of the right to do so. Interest in the election is comparatively small. The absent votinjr system in vogue at the Parliamentar3' election is not operative in connection with the elections of licensing committees. No election is necessary for the Wellington licensing committee. The following committee was elected for the Franklin district: John Bray and T. C. P. Whitley (Otalruhu), C. K. L.awry. F. Perkins, and J. T. Stembridge (Pukekohe)
