Five candidates are required to be plected for each licensing district, nolicense districts, of course, being excepted. There are 57 licensing districts in New Zealand. The franchise for licensing committee elections is very wide, being actually the same as that at the General Election, hut it has become notorious that few of those who arc entitled to vote avail themselves of the right to do so. Interest in the election is comparatively small. The absent votinjr system in vogue at the Parliamentar3' election is not operative in connection with the elections of licensing committees. No election is necessary for the Wellington licensing committee. The following committee was elected for the Franklin district: John Bray and T. C. P. Whitley (Otalruhu), C. K. L.awry. F. Perkins, and J. T. Stembridge (Pukekohe)
