ROYAL RECOLLECTIONS.
QUEEN VICTORIA'S LETTERS
ADDITIONAL EXTRACTS.
LONDON, February 26. Further extracts from the new series of letters of Queen Victoria, which have just been published by the King's authority, show that on the death of the Prince Consort Queen Victoria wrote to the then King of the Belgians: "I am miserable, wretched and almost frantic without my angel to stand by mc and put others down in their right place. My fate is too dreadful. If I could but go soon to him and be at rest. Day or night I have no peace." Another feature of the book is a, vigorous denunciation of the Romanising of the Church of England, and a declaration of the Queen's intentions to uphold Protestantism in England and the closer relation of nil Protestant churches. Other disclosures are a vigorous intervention to prevent England from fighting Germany over Schleswig-Holstein, and a declaration that the British Empire must stand by Belgium, alone if nefessary.—(A. and N.Z.)
