FIELDS OF FINANCE.
A NEW OPPORTUNITY. AIBING THE EMPIRE. LONDOX, February 20. Attention was focussed on one aspect of Empire settlement which has hitherto not received much notice, at the dinner of the Knights of the Round Table, when Sir John Ferguson (banker, and a director of "Bawra") said that, of late, the great British bankers had Eought to broaden their base of operations by activities in foreign fields. They knew, he said, that there were limitations to what they could do in foreign countries, but he was of opinion that there was no limit to what they could do in the British Empire. Already some great British banker* had formed alliances and affiliations with banks working in the Dominions. If the right direction was given to the activities of these newly-formed relationships, Sir John continued, he liad no doubt they would contribute largely to the building up of Empire trade and the drawing closer of the bonds of Empire—(Renter).
