A BAD CASE.
• DRUNKEN MOTOR CYCLIST. GAOL FOR ONE MONTH. "I can't pet- the thing- to start —it's a dirty spark plug, that's what is the matter." so Frank Crumlish (50) told Constable Cavaye yesterday afternoon in Queen Street. i A traffic inspector, after watching I Crumlish endeavouring to start his j motor cycle in the street, walked along ! and had a quiet word with the constable, with the result that Crumlish j was arrested for being in a state of intoxication while in charge of the motor | vehicle. j This morning at the Police Court ac- : cused pleaded not guilty. Constable - Cavaye said that Crumlish was well i under the influence of liquor and quite I incapable of driving the cycle. When 1 witness approached him he said that a idirty plug was the cause of all the ! trouble. i A traffic- inspector gave similar evidence, while Sergeant Calwell added' that he saw Crumlish at the watch house i when he was brought in under arrest. ,He was then drunk. A doctor, who was ! 'summoned to examine Crumlish also j certified to this effect. i Crumlish told the magistrate that he certainly had a few drinks yesterday, but that he was quite capable of riding his machine. He had ridden motor cycles in many towns all over the world, anel had never yet met with an accident. Sergeant Calwell produced accused's list, comprising in all. 33 previous convictions, mostly for offences arising from drink. The case was a serious one as the 'street was crowded witS traffic at the time. "Yes. it's a bad case." said Mr. Poynton. who sent Crumlish to gaol for one i month.
