He has nowbeen appointed as assistant general man-ag-er of the Taranakl Company, but will , control the Glsborne operations. • The first well, wblcn will soon be put down, will be regarded as more or less or a ■ test and even ir the company does not pet great results they wIU learn much of the g-eological difficulties which are to be en- , countered. , | The first attempts to get oil m the district were made firty-two years ago, but the present company has gone about the Drellmlnary work in a much more thorough manner than any of Its predecessors.
