LONDON WOOL SALES.

———— I 1 INCREASED CONFIDENCE. ' LONDOX, January 30. ' The London wool sales are proceeding ! satisfactorily, and there is evidence of . increased confidence among users generally, according to the special wool > correspondent of the "Economist." An encouraging feature of the pales is the continued buying of French and German operators, who have evidently found it good policy to take up further supplies. America has taken only a few lots, chiefly super comebacks and. three-quarter-bred slipes. Most of the offer-. ings are falling to home trade, and excellent eupport is being given to slipes, although these are generally one penny per lb cheaper than at the last series. Offerings of greasy crossbreds are small, and the determination of buyers to secure these while they are available is . resulting in the prices being kept very firm. It must not be expected, however, that the present basis will bo exceeded for j large supplies may be expected later. I Bradford buyers are showing -"- good deal of confidence in crossbred wools in spite of the absence of any great demand on immediate consumptive account. j An outstanding feature of the sales in the past week was that they passed off better than at one time seemed probable or reasonable. The opening has produced a beneficial effect. j Merinos were in strong general com- ■ petition yesterday. Continental buyers were the chief operators. Prices were firm. Crossbreds were in small supply. — (A. and >~.Z. Cable.)
