DAIRY PRODUCE CONTROL

BOARD'S MARKET POLICY. EXPLAINER TO TAEANAKI FARMERS AN INCONCLUSIVE VOTE. ] (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") : STRATFORD, this day. ' Abnut 200 dairy farmers and factory! directors attended a meeting in Hawera, when, in response to the invitation of the Taranaki Federation of Dairy Factories, members of the Dairy Control Board attended to explain the board's marketing policy. The board members present "were Messrs. W. Grounds, W. Goodfellow. H. D. Forsyth, J. R. Thacker, K. W. Dalrymple, W. Bryant, and John Fisber. Mr. Grounds said there were many confused ideas re the board's policy, which he reviewed at length. Hβ eubmitted that there was no change in ! the policy to warrant the view that j the board had changed its outlook in I regard to control. Many thought that the board would not bring in compulsory control in August next, but he assured them that the board were definitely going to do so. Their decision, regarding that and other mattere had not been arrived at hastily, but after much inquiry and investigation. Tα defer control would, in fchfi speaKpr's opinion, be fatal and would result- in the loss of control of the industry by the producers. Mr. Grounds strongly df-nied the allcf gation that Waikato dominated t lie j board. He also defended the appointment of Mr. J. B. Wright as London manager , . Messrs. Forayth... Thacker, OoortfHIcy. and Fisher spoke on similar lines, after which, a greftl number of ijmotions was answered. At the conclusion of the m<"tm£. Mi. J. R. Corrigan moved n motion I suggesting deferment of absolute eon- ! ti-01. as the time was inopportune. : Breaking to the motion he Raid thai Iμ w&s a strong supporter of the Control Board, but . merely wished to get an expression of opinion. An amendment that the meeting hiirl every confidence in the board's policy waa then proposed. The nmendment was lost by 64 to 02. and when tho motion was put, it also was lost.
