MEDICAL HEROINE.
STRUGGLE AGAINST DEATH. DOCTORS DEEPLY CONCERNED. LONDON", January 21. Dr. Iris Fox, one of the most brilliant of women doctors, is at present the heroine of a remarkable struggle against the ravages of blood-poisoning. This was caused by one of her fingers being pricked while she was acting as pathologist in a hospital laboratory. All the women doctors in the profession are determined to save Dr. Fox!*s life. Eight doctors are now at her bedside including her father, Dr. R. Fortescue Fox, formerly president of the Hunterian Society. A crowd of women doctors and students stand constantly awaiting bulletins outside the hospital. The medical men say that the courage of the patient is marvellous, and that she refuses to give up hope.— (A. and X.Z. Cable.) TREES OF EMPIRE. A VITAL MATTER. LONDON, January 21. The "Daily Telegraph" remarks that it is satisfactory to learn from the Journal of the Empire Forestry Association that the Governments throughout the Empire are giving forestry its proper place in their constructive programmes. If the forests of the Dominions and colonies were properly developed they could supply Britain with almost all the timber she needs and render her less dependent on foreign supplies. 1 The paper says the State forests of Xew South Wales cover an area larger than that of Wales. It says also that there is an astonishing revival of public interest in forestry ill New Zealand.— (A. and N.Z. Cable.) '
