ROUGH RUGBY.
i INTERNATIONAL BRAWL. THE PLAYER THE BALL. I (Received 11 a.m.) J LONDON, January 19. ! "Rugby like a street brawl is the description of Saturday's England v. j ales match, attributed to an unnamed but well-known international player in ' the "Evening Standard." " j He says that fists were used as in a ; street brawl, and feet as if the players themselves were the ball. ! A prominent Welsh Rugby Unionite is I quoted as saying: "It was disgraceful: j It was not Rugby. There was at one time a danger of one of the captains j leading his team off the field. I saw what can only be described as deliberate blows, and the off-side rule was • blatantly broken in the scrums by the Welsh halves. I am full of regrets at j the conduct of certain individuals and < the barracking of the crowd." j It is stated that the English Rugby ; Unionists discussed the matter unoffi-1 cially, and it will not be surprising if the Welsh union receives a letter on the j subject. — (Renter.)
