Hunting and racing generally are j stopped. [ The Air Ministry forecasts a further j fall. A message from Madrid says that an Arctic wave prevails in Spain. The temperature at Seville is three degrees below zero. There are heavy snowfalls in the north and north-east, including Valencia. Train services are carried on under the most difficult conditions. A hurricane is raging on the Catalonian coast. Several vessels broke from their moorings and were battered against the quays. Many fishing boats were destroyed near Barcelona. Even Rome is covered by snow. Round the Gulf of Lyons towns have been flooded for the first time in history. Perignan, France, has been completely isolated. Six hundred fishing families on the Barcelona coast have been rendered homeless. Huge waves are sweeping over the tide marks. Even on the Riviera the temperature is 9deg below zero.— (Reuter.)
