FLOODS ON CONTINENT.
OVERFLOW OF THE RIVERS. PERILS OF THE PEOPLE. LONDON, January 8. Reports from Amsterdam state that while the Rivers Rhine, Waal, and Meuse have fallen, the River Yser has attained a record height. A thousand people have already been rescued from attics, roofs, or the dykes. Many more are still awaiting rescue. Many people have lost all their possessions. Queen Wilhelmina has visited the military barracks at Ede, where many flood victims, consisting mostly of women and children, have been sheltered. A message from Berlin states that immense damage has been done by the floods in the Rhineland. The damage tithe harbour at Dusseldorf is estimated at 1.000.000 marks. Fifteen firms in the vicinity have claimed 867.000 marks. The claims already entered at Coblenz exceed 2,000,000 marks.— (Reuter.)
