It is ascertained that the powerstation disaster at Yereeniging, was due to the breaking of the shaft of the large turbine-driven generator. The frame of the machine burst, and the broken parts were scattered in all directions. Some were found in the town of Yereeniging, more than a-quarter of a mile away. An astonishing feature is that no one was injured The mine tonnage is affected by the stoppage of over 20,000 daily, representing a loss of £30,000 daily.
