MR. LANG'S HARD ROW. CHALLENGE TO GOVERNMENT. SYDNEY, December 9. Tlip Lender of the Opposition (Mr. T. R. Bavin) in the Legislative Assembly to-day moved the adjournment of the House to discuss the failure of the Government to, institute inquiries into the allegations of the existence of a plot by Nationalists to bribe certain Labour members. The motion was ruled out of order. The Widows' 'Pensions Bill was read a third time and transmitted to the Legislative Council. Tn the latter Chamber the Government was again challenged while the second reading debate waa proceeding on the Parliamentary Electorates and Elections. Amendment Bill. j This measure provides for a return to the single seat system. j An amendment was moved to provide for single spate under the preferential rating system. Mr. A. f. Willis (Vice-President of the Executive Council), in charge of the bill, refused to accent the amendment. He said it was a direct challenge to fbc Government, which the attitude of the Council was placing in an intolerable position. Personally, be would prefer to appeal to the country. The amendment was eventually dropped.— (A. and X.Z. Cable.)
