THE MOSUL QUESTION.
'. LONG SITTING AT GENEVA. ! 1 c { CLAIMS OF TURKEY. 1 LONDON, December 9. r The question of Mosul occupied the • attention of the Council of the League ) of Nations at Geneva from three o'clock 1 yesterday afternoon until long into the s night. ) Sir Austen Chamberlain remained in • the Chamber. Mr. Tv. C. M. S. Amery : and the Jurkish representative (Munir I Bey) were invited to the council table. Munir Bey declared that Turkey would • never consent to leave her destinies in the disputed territories to arbitration. i He finally appealed to the League to • assume the role of mediator and con- • ciliator, for whom Turkey was still willing and anxious. 1 Turkey lias again served notice on the i League that arbitration will not be 1 accepted without the prior approval of ' the Angora Assembly, says the Oenova 1 correspondent of the "Morning Post." Munir Bey's concluding words convey a ray of hope. ' Colour is lent to this opinion by ; rumours that the matter will finally bo : settled between Turkey nnd Britain." 1 The diplomatic correspondent of the - "Daily Herald" goes so far as to assert that a plan of settlement has already been prepared under which Turkey would ; relinquish her claim to Mosul 'for the concession by France to her of Antioch and Alexandretta, France to agree to this in return for Britain's co-operation at Locarno and her support jti Syria (A. and N.Z. Cable.) •«■ |
