DISMISSED NURSES.
A LABOUR RESOLUTION. In reference to the recent dismissal of six nurses by the Wellington Hospital Board, and the subsequent discussion at the last meeting of the board, the Wellington . Women's Branch of the Labour party has passed the following resolution:— "That the Wellington Women's Branca of -the Labour party considers the action of the Hospital Board in dismissing six nurses on the grounds publicly alleged to be unnecessarily harsh and arbitrary, particularly in view of the fact that it was not suggested that the efficiency of the nurses concerned was impaired In any way or that their work was unsafe. isfactory. The members of the branch believe that it is absolutely essential that discipline must be strictly observed and regulations enforced if the high standard of efficiency necessary for thei hospital is to he maintained, but at tha same time they hold that the best inter-i ests of the hospital and of the puhlid would have been served if the situation had been dealt with firmly and justly aa ; a first offence in such a fashion as would enable the services of the nurses to be | retained, while at the same time rendering impossible any recurrence of the " incident. His ' organisation urges the Hospital Board to reopen and reconsider the whole matter with. a view to the reinstatement of the dismissed girls, thereby restoring to them the opportunity of a career of usefulness and service in their profession." j The nurses concerned were dismissed . ■ for entering the building by the fira j escape after a late night out.
