A QUAY STREET HOTEL.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —I notice that on the eve of the application for the transfer of the license of the Thames Hotel to premises in Quay Street you make some comment. I would like to draw attention to aspects of the case which have not been made public, and which, in the interests of fair play, I think should be. It is stated, though I do not speak authoritively, that the Quay Street building is to be, and can be, converted into a comfortable residential hotel, and that upward of £10,000 has been Spent on it. Should that be so and the prospect of the hotel being solely "a beer house" averted, surely the "Star's" arguments are answered. In other cities of the world hotels abutting railway stations and wharves are regarded as essential. Should the new building offer such conveniences then every assistance should be lent the licensee instead of endeavouring to thwart his scheme. —I am, etc., K. E. MYNOTT.
