Desert Glow ivas nearly down on liis nose as the field turned out of the straight in the Alison Cup, and never afterwards had a chance. Mosaic is a good hack, and should win good races this season. He came from a long way back in the Takapuna Plate, and just failed to reach King Potou. Cawnpore ran well in the Cheltenham Handicap on Saturday at Takapuna, finishing in third position. It should not lie long before he is seen to better advantage. Polonett usually races well at Takapuna and on Saturday filled second position in the Alison Cup. He is right up to form just now and should be hard to dispose of in future engagements. Ring Fotoa has been a most consistent performer this season, and ran up to his recent form by winning the Takapuna Plate on Saturday from a big field. He is a full brother to Te Monanui, which won the Mitehelson Cup. Highway won the Tiri Hurdles well on Saturday. He was riddeii in behind till the field entered -the back stretch for the last time, and then took charge, to win easily at the finish. He is a'class above the others engaged. The Mahdi, which won at Rosehill on Saturday, was purchased by Dr McGregor Grant from Mr. T. H. Low'ry at a sale held at Ellerslie last January, and was sent to Sydney some weeks ago. He is by Egypt—First Blow. Musketoon ran a great race in the Alison Cup on Saturday. He had the steadier of 9.8 and put in a fine run,at the finish, being less than two lengths behind the winner, which he was conceding I,lb. Musketoon is a good horse. Hallymoy IT. made her second attempt on Saturday to win the Takapuna Plate, hut had to be content with third place After the field turned for borne it looked as though she would just get there .but she faded to stall off Ring Potoa and Mosaic. Star Ranger could not handle the turns at lakapuna, and after turning out of the straight lost his position and was never dangerous afterwards This horse will probably remain in Auckland until after the Ellerslie Christmas meet ing. He, however, Nippy has some pace and he should be . seen to further advantage before long. He had a run at the Waikato meeting and showed on that occasion that he was going to bo useful. On Saturday he was always. in a handy position in the Melrose Handicap and won nicely. Capella Abbey keeps up his reputation cfor thirds. He was in that position twice at Hamilton, and again occupied a similar place in the Takapuna meeting on Saturday when he contested the Cambria Handicap. He is one of R. Hannon's team. Ring the Bell had every opportunity to :win at Takapuna on Saturday for he was in a handy position, particularly over the concluding stages, but the best ho could do was to finish fourth. Ring the Bell, however, has proved himself to be more than useful and though beaten on Saturday he was not disgraced. Merry Damon is coming back to his best form, and his second in the Cheltenham Handicap was a. good performance, considering some of those behind him. It is stated that the three horses falling in the race affected him,, and he never got properly balanced afterwards. He ehould be heard of at Christmas time. Cold Acre performed fairly well as a two-year-old last season, winning three races and being second on another occasion. On Saturday he was started in the Cheltenham Handicap and showed a great burst of speed, winning prao , t-ieally all the way. The time was 1.11 '-■a, but it must be mentioned that the is about thirty yards' short of the actual distance.
