SHEEP WORRIED.
STRAY DOG NUISANCE.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
TAIHAPE, Thursday.
Last night a number of sheep, placed for the night in a holding paddock in the borough, were worried by dogs, the owner of the. sheep losing a number of wothcrs for which he had refused 33/ per head at the stock sale that day. Nine of the sheep were found dead this morning, and others had to be killed later. The value of the sheep destroyed totals £20.
The destruction of sheep by stray dogs has been worse than ever this year, and the Borough Council is being urged to adopt an. adequate syetem of dog registration:
Sheepownera point out tlsat they have no remedy when they catch unregistered dogs worrying sheep. Dogs which have been shot were eollarless and there was n(\means of tracing the owners. Those who have suffered losses contend that registration of all dogs will give them a chance to take action against the owners for damages when the dogs are shot or caught wben worrying sheep.
There are a number of stray dogs in the town, and the council is being asked to make an effort to get them.
