AUSTRALIAN HOT SPELL.
BUSH FIRES AND RAIN. SYDNEY, October 30. As si result of the hot spell in Victoria, I widespread bush fires are raging in the country districts of that State. Following on the hot, dry spell in New South Wales, rain has commenced to fall m many districts in the wheat area. ■ In Sydney this evening the weather was still showery. The rain, though widely scattered, has so far been mostly light and insufficient to relieve the drought, but there are prospects of it continuing.— (A. and N.Z. Cable)
