THE BLANKET DRIVE.

TRAVELLERS ASK FOR DONATION. * DECLINED BY CITY COUNCIL. The City Council has been asked by the Auckland Commercial Travellers' Association for a donation towards their effort to collect £5000 to buy blankets for the poor of Auckland. It was pointed out that unless they succeeded in raising £5000 a subsidy of £1500 by the Government would not be paid. The City Treasurer reported that the amount allocated for unauthorised expenditure on the 1925-20 estimates was £1000. of which a balance remained totalling £020 11/7. The Finance and Legal Committee recommended that the request be declined.

This recommendation was adopted by the Council at its meeting last night.
