ABSENT WITHOUT LEAVE.
THREE SEAMEN CHARGED. TO FORFEIT SIX DAYS' PAY. Three seamen, two from the Treverbyn and one off the Devon, came before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., at the Police Court this morning on charges of being absent without leave from their ships. Mr. Haigh, who prosecuted on behalf of the shipping companies concerned, said that the two men from the Treverbyn had been absent since October 5. The seaman from the Devon had been away since October 4. Both the Treverbyn and Devon had left Auckland. Each of the three men was ordered to forfeit six days' pay, the magistrate refusing to allow solicitors' expenses. THE WAIMANA'S CREW. Four cases in which seamen were charged with having refused duty on the s.s. Waimana were called at the Police Court this afternoon, before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M. At the request of Mr. Haigh, of Messrs. Russell, Campbell and McVeagh's office, two of the summonses were withdrawn, and the other two were adjourned for a week. In answer to the S.M., Mr. Haigh said in the two first mentioned cases the men had gone back to the ship.
