UNCLE SAM LACKS OIL.
ALARM IN U.S.A. WHEN TEE AVAR COMES. ATLANTIC CITY, October 14. A truly alarming situation exists regarding the United States supply of natural petroleum oil, according to Mr. Henry Doherty, president of the Doherty Oil Company of New York. Addressing the convention of the American Gas Association, he controverted the recent report of the American Petroleum Institute, stating that the nation's oil supply is adequate. He declared that a careful analysis of the report would not convince him that if another war happened, even within three years, the United States would be certain to have a proper supply available. The Petroleum Institute's committee fell back on the assurance of a supply of oil from shale oil and coal-beds, yet they were compelled to admit in the •same report that if all the coal mined in 1924. worn iicp.l to m»lrp oil. this would produce barely more than three per cent of the motor fuel required.— (A. and N.Z. Cable.)
