WAR IN MOROCCO.
RESPITE FOB WINTER. PLANS AGAINST RIFFS. LONDON, October 14. An official French report says the offensive in Morocco has terminated until the summer. The act that the French and Spanish forces have attained all their objectives, coupled with the advent of the rainy season, which will prevent a further advance, is mentioned in the official statement as marking the beginning of a new phase of operations. These will consist in the isolation of Abd-el-Krim from the rebel tribes which previously supported him. This means the establishment of barriers which will divide the Riff territory into compartments under the supervision of the troops in occupation. Abd-el-Krim will thus be prevented from rallying his previous supporters. The winter campaign also provides for the construction of roads and other communications to facilitate FrancoSpanish co-operation. The statement refers to the readiness of a number of the tribes in the eastern district to submit. This will facilitate the occupation of large tracts of territory. The tribes under the direct command of Abd-el-Krim have recently been resisting most feebly. This may be due to a plan to conserve his force for a big attack at a particular point, but it is thought the tribes generally are losing their warlike enthusiasm.— (Reuter and "Sun.")
