POLITICIAN V. POLITICIAN.

A QUAINT WAR (Receiver! 12 noon.) SYDNEY, this day. Mr. Lang stated yesterday that the Government will now drop the Local Government Bill. It will not accept the Council challenge at present, as it intends to pick its own battleground. The Premier indicated that when additional appointments were made, at least 20 new niembers of tho Council will be appointed, probably all pledged to carry out the abolition of that Chamber. It is generally thought that the attempt to swamp the Council will be deferred until next year, but the local Government elections will not be postponed.— (A. and N.Z. Cable.) .
