RECORD YEAR EXPECTED.

BIG DEMAND FOR MOTORS. :n t ever a winter like it. The leading motor firms in Auckland expect this year to rank as a record. Although in certain quarters some slackness exists, all the larger firms claim they have had an all-round increase in orders, and in a number of eases have sold cars for two or three shipments ahead. '"I have had to increase my factory orders by 50 per cent," was the remark of a manager to-day; and he added that a big shipment he was landing now had all been sold in advance. The bulk of a shipment that would be arriving for his firm in three weeks' time had also been sold. Another firm had sold its shipments as far ahead as December. "I have never known a winter like it," remarked the manager. "If we do a summer trade to correspond I guarantee sales will go up like magic." In the country it was the same as in the city. Agents were steadily sending in orders and taking delivery of cars; and an obviously satisfied man said today he expected October to be the best month he had ever had. He had not experienced any great change in business at the time of the Motor Exhibition, but he thought the advertisement that firms obtained by having their names before 35,000 people was beginning to have an effect that would continue for months ahead. He was selling one car a week more than last ytar, and had not the slightest fear about the capacity of the market to absorb new cars as they arrived. A rather different tone was adopted by the manager of an old-established firm, who said that as far as slackness was concerned it was always too slack for him, and the motor trade was never able to do quite as much trade as it would like. However, he was busier than at this time last year, and was cheery enough about the prospects.
