LORD BURNHAM ON TREES.
SUITABILITY OF NEW EEALAND (By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright. I (Received 1.30 p.m.) HOBART, this day. The Empire Press Union delegates arrived at Launceston- Speaking at the civic reception, Lord Burnham (chairman), referring to afforestation, said the Government should place a fixed sum on the Estimates each year for this purpose. He had never seen a country better adapted than Tasmania, except, possibly, New Zealand, for the growth of valuable hard and soft woods. A message from Perth says that the Premier, on being advised that owing to the shipping strike the Empire Press Union delegates would not visit West Australia, commented that the shipping trouble at Fremantle was exaggerated. His Government guaranteed safe conduct and immunity from molestation to ships calling at West Australia- —A. and N.Z. j
