DUNEDIN FOR MUSIC.
THE BEST TENORS. TEMPLE WHITE'S TESTIMONY. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") DUNEDIN, this day. Mr. IT. Temple White, adjudicator in the vocal music sections at the Dunedin competitions, in an interview, said: "No other centre in New Zealand can produce so many tenors of good quality as Dundin. Both as regards number and quality. Dunedin choirs compare more than favourably with those to be found in northern centres."
Stating that the public taste was "distinctly on the up grade," Mr. White attributed, as reasons of this, the cult of the gramophone and the great influence that must be exorcised by visits of such artists as Kreisler and Moiseivitch. "There is also the fact," he continued, "that choirs and glee clubs are now appearing in most towns of any size, all ; indicative of public desires for some- ' thing better in music." Various women's clubs devoted to the study of different aspects of art and music were, he said, likewise accomplishing much in spreading love of the beautiful.
