CRUELTY TO A DOG.
(To the Editor.) Sir.—Will you kindly give the following incident publicity? A dog belonging to a resident in Takapuna, after an absence of a few minutes, returned to his home in a distr essinc; condition and writhing with pain. Some strong fluid had been brushed on to. or thrown over, liis hind quarters, burning the hair off his back and the skbi on tiie tenderest parts of his body. Attached to his collar was a piece of rope, which indicated that he had been held or tied up while the brutal deed was done. A veterinary surgeon was at once sent for, but lie held out Lttle hope of tiie doa's recovery. The dog's offence could not have been very great, for be was away so short a time: but, whatever it was, it docs not warrant that he shall be tortured to death.—l am, etc., K. E. DAYIS. j
