THIRTY POINTS TO EIGHT. (By Telegraph.—Uwn Correspondent.) ROTORUA, Monday. The New South Wales team arrived at Rotorua from Gisborne on Sunday evening, nil delighted with the motor trip through the Motu Gorge. The Maoris gave a reception at Whaka, and to-day the team was given a civic reception. A big crowd of visitors was present to see the match. The New South Wales team consisted of : Smith, Grossman, King, George. Foote, Mulligan, Snell, Greatorex, Shaw. Hill, Judd, Telford. Woods, and Palmer. Rotorua : Harison, Morrison. Hicks. T. Morrison. Burt, Anaru. Reke, Atikepa, Hakaraia, Simpson, Goodson. Barry. Pine, Heke. Mason. The visitors kicked off with a slight wind behind them. Immediately they attacked, Reke saving by kicking out. Then George sent to Greatorex, back to George, to Judd, i to Greatorex, who scored, Crossman converting. Then Reke, Hicks and Morrison came through with a pretty rush, the latter scoring under the posts, and Pini converting. Immediately Rotorua came again, to be stopped brilliantly by Crossman. who forced. Play then centred, with the game in New South Wales' favour. It was very fast, till from a scrum in the Rotorua twenty-five the ball went through the whole I three-quarter line, Foote scoring. Crossman converted, the spell ending— New South Wales 10 Rotorua 5 The second spell, for two-thirds of the time, was a succession of thrills. Rotorua doing most of the attacking, but lacking tinisli to complete the movements, combined l with the determined defence put up by New South Wales. Kveryone had to be in place else an opponent got clear away. The local team's second tr-,- came from Atikepa ! cleverly intercepting a New South Wales rush, then racing for the line, dodgingSmith, and scoring near the corner. The kick was not converted. Then both sides had a turn of attacking, and only grim tackling saved scores, but here the local team liegan to tire, and Xew South Wales scored a try. which was not converted. For some time both sides fought hard for an opening: Foote got it, racing three-quarters of the way downfield, and scoring in the corner. The kick at proal failed. Foote secured in his own twenty-five, and raced down the field, outdistancing the opposition, and scored in the corner. Again no goal was kicked. The pressure was kept up. and i Crossman added two tries and Blackwood one. Crossman converting two, and Mulligan fretting n delightful field ffonl. Then George scored another- well-earned try. and the game ended in a win for the visitors by SO to S.

The only Test match of the New South Wales team's tour will be played on Saturday at Kden Park, when the All Black 'earn will consist of thirteen players who took part in the international games in Britain last year, with the addition of Lomns (of Thames) and Finlayson (of North Auckland), who were among the star forwards of this year's All Blacks.
