FROM VARIOUS VESSELS. \ H TWO MONTHS' ' A Waterside worker named Herbert Hayson <28) appeared at Police Court this morning before ■Mγ. J. W. Poyntonj 6.M., when he pleaded guilty to six charges *>£ theft of drapery goods of a total value of flO 12/1. Mi-. Allan bloody appeared for accused. Detective McHugh said that Hftyebn stole the goods from ships on which ha had worked. Most of the property had been found in accused's possession when his house Was eearchedMr. Moody *aid that ftecused, who resided with Ms mother, had experienced considerable trouble with his wife, and they were living apart. One thing in his favour was that Haysori had no* attempted to dispose of any of the goods, while he had given the police every assistance. He had not broken ttpen. cases and removed the goods but hid seen them lying about and had taken them home. Accused was supporting hiß mother, *nd counsel asked whether it would be possible for the magistrate to inflict fines on some of the charges and admit him to probation on the ethers-.. Mr. Poynton: This man has been thieving for eight months. There is no suggestion of sudden temptation in thi3 case. Probation is out of the question. However, I will take into consideration that he has not been before the Court before. He will receive two months' imprisonment on the first charge, and will be convicted and discharged on all the others.
