SCRIM AND PAPER.
(To the Editor.) Sir.—For the enlightenment of "Decorator" writing in the "Star" recently, may I point out that with the use of wall-board, papering is not really necessary at all, there being 34 tints of an approved water-paint to choose from, the joints being covered with a stained batten, fives a very effective appearance. What was the outstanding feature in impelling a protest against the use of scrim (which is 50 years out of date) was its susceptibility to harl>ouring perms, and I believe this was distinctly observed in the renovation of a certain nursing home much under public discussion recently. A medico, whose word is of some value, also remarked that he could trace one half of throat troubles to the use of scrim. Xo doubt its abolition will mean a loss to the average man directly using it, but when the general health of the. community is at stake, financial interests must pink into oblivion.—l am, etc., j ARTHT'R CTMMIXGS.
